Abstract

Cervical video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (C-VATS) is a minimally invasive procedure permitting unilateral or bilateral thoracoscopy through a single cervical incision without any intercostal incision. It combines cervical mediastinoscopy, flexible endoscopy, and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) by passing a flexible endoscope into the pleural cavity through a rigid mediastinoscope. C-VATS is a procedure for the evaluation of pleural effusions of unknown etiology, for performing pleural biopsies, peripheral lung biopsies, and talc pleurodesis. It is associated with minimal postoperative and long-term pain.
