Abstract

p w c s a t p t ( e c U Schwannomas are benign tumors arising from the perineural cells located in the peripheral nerve sheath. They were first described by Verocay in 1908. Since that time, they have been differently amed: neurilemmoma, neurinoma, solitary benign erve sheath tumor, perineural fibroblastoma, or chwannoma. These neoplasms have a wide distriution of origin, but have a predilection for certain ites such as the roots of spinal nerves and the audiory nerve, and many arise in the head and neck. ntracranially, the acoustic nerve is most commonly ffected. Extracranial schwannomas arise in the head nd neck region in 25% to 40% of all cases.
