Abstract
We present a rare case of marked cervical prevertebral soft-tissue thickening detected on plain films in a patient being examined for acute cervical spine trauma in whom subsequent CT examination showed a large prevertebral fat stripe but no acute injuries. To our knowledge this finding, which has not been previously reported, is a normal variant that should be recognized in order to avoid further unnecessary diagnostic workup and treatment.
