Abstract

Spinal meningiomas represent 1.2% to 12% of all central nervous system meningiomas, accounting for 25% to 46% of all intradural extramedullary lesions [1]. There is a female predominance and incidence is higher in Caucasians and Asian Pacific Islanders [1,2]. A recent systematic review on spinal meningiomas revealed thoracic (64.6%) and cervical (22.7%) to be the most common levels involved [5]. Recurrence is related to extent of resection and WHO grade. Recurrence rates have been documented between 1.3% and 13%, in a study on 173 cases a recurrence rate of 2.3% was reported [3].
