Abstract

1. We developed a technology for making sealing inserts for working temperatures of up to 850°C from powdered alloy based on nickel (material KN), where the filler is heat-processed boron nitride powder. 2. We studied the oxidation resistance of sealing materials based on nickel where the filler was graphite (material S-5) and boron nitride (material KN). We established that material KN has the higher oxidation resistance. 3. We carried out working tests of the KN material in a gas turbine engine for 4000 h, and studied its properties after testing compared with the material S-5. It was established that the KN material hardly alters its properties in conditions of prolonged operation of the gas turbine engine. The stable properties of this material are due to its high oxidation resistance. 4. The low oxidation resistance of the material S-5 in working conditions is due to the low resistance against oxidation of the filler which, in this case, was graphite. 5. The material nickel — silicon — boron nitride (KN), as the most oxidation-resistant material, is recommended as a sealer for sealing units in the channel part of gas turbines.
