Abstract
Cerclage related complications in patients after trachelectomy are rare, but can have an immense effect on fertility and obstetric outcomes. We aim to report on cerclage related complications after trachelectomy and to increase awareness and develop preventive strategies.
Highlights
A pregnancy after trachelectomy is at increased risk for ascending infections and chorioamnionitis, prelabor rupture of the membranes (PPROM), second trimester fetal loss and preterm birth [7], which could be prevented by placing a permanent cerclage during trachelectomy
Prior fertility preserving vaginal or abdominal trachelectomy with permanent cerclage was performed in different tertiary hospitals in the Netherlands
In six pregnant patients the cerclage was displaced after trachelectomy
Summary
We aim to report on cerclage related complications after trachelectomy and to increase awareness and develop preventive strategies. The aim of this study is to summarize the results of these complicated cases in order to search for underlying causes that possibly could be prevented or detected earlier
