Abstract

The interdependences existing between characteristic powder parameters and sintering behaviour of real particulate systems have been reviewed. The influences of particle shape, particle size, particle size distribution, agglomerates and surface area on sintering kinetics and microstructure of sintered bodies have been analysed. The attempts to introduce quantitative terms into the relationships between particle size distribution functions and sintering equations are described. Development trends in the field of powder preparation techniques are shortly described and characteristic properties of some oxide and non-oxide ultrafine ceramic powders are presented.
