Abstract

• CDs-doped CeO 2 -based Z-scheme was fabricated. • CDs can act as the electron mediators. • Outstanding photocatalytic N 2 fixation properties were obtained. • Charge-hole pair separation efficiency was improved significantly. Herein, all-solid-state Z-scheme heterojunction of CeO 2 -carbon dots-mixed metal hydroxides (MOH) is assembled firstly, in which carbon dots can act as the charge mediators. The material exhibit much higher photocatalytic activity, and the NH 3 production rate can reach 528 and 256 µmol·g cal −1 ·h −1 without any sacrificial agents under the full spectrum and visible-light illumination, respectively. The possible reaction mechanism during the photocatalytic N 2 fixation process is also proposed.
