Abstract

In the present work, the CeO2 nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs) were prepared by hydrothermal method and the crystal structure and morphology analysis were studied by using a series of characterizations. Then, the screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) modified with CeO2 NPs was employed to develop a simple and novel sensor for sulfite determination in water samples. The CeO2 NPs/SPCE showed significant current response for sulfite oxidation. The use of the developed sensor with differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method provides a wide linear range for sulfite determination (0.08–870.0 µM) with a low limit of detection (LOD) (0.023 µM). Finally, the results determination of sulfite in water samples showed good recoveries between 96.7% and 102.7% with a relative standard deviation (RSD) less than 3.6%.
