Abstract
In this article, the principles of constructing modern relay protection and automation systems are considered. The features of the implementation of existing industrial solutions are analyzed. In particular, three groups of devices are distinguished by the degree of use of the protocol IEC-61850. Also, the drawbacks that arise when implementing relay protection systems on such devices are given. A number of shortcomings are due to the fact that the principle of constructing structural links between the logical elements of the relay protection complex has not been changed since the electromechanical relay. The article suggests ways to improve the structure of the relay protection system in order to optimize and improve the reliability of centralized automatic control systems.
