Abstract

The high penetration level of photovoltaic distributed generation (PVDG) units in distribution networks can violate system limits and cause asset congestion (in lines and transformers). This work proposed a fuzzy controller to mitigate the congestion by controlling the PVDG power that has an impact on the distribution networks. The fuzzy controller asset congestion management (FCACM) works based on data from the monitoring and measurements in distribution networks. First, it calculates the total PVDGs generation and demand load to constantly find the maximum PVDGs generation that can be accommodated without leading to congestion in distribution networks. The maximum PVDGs generation translated into generation set points sent as flat one-way signals to all PVDG units in distribution networks.
