Abstract
Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) counterpulsation can improve coronary blood flow by augmenting coronary diastolic blood pressure. IABP can also increase cardiac index by reducing left ventricular workload [1–3]. The role of IABP in cardiogenic shock related to acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is well established in current practice guidelines [4].
