Abstract

A central mode of the hydrogen-bonded ferroelectric PbHPO 4 is found in the paraelectric phase by hyper-Raman scattering. From the polarization dependence, the observed central mode is assigned to B u mode. From the line shape analysis, the central mode is related with the order-disorder type phase transition. The temperature dependences of the intensity and the half width of this central mode follow the Curie-Weiss law. Because of the weak SHG in paraelectric phase, it is concluded that the space group of the paraelectric phase belongs to C 4 2 h .
