Abstract

The kinematics are studied of central collisions of 1.5 GeV/nucleon argon nuclei with silver nuclei in emulsion. Our sample (608 tracks from 7 stars) represents the highest 3% of the multiplicity distribution of ArAg collisions. It is observed that the mean transverse energy indicates a lower temparature for the pions ( T π =45 MeV) than for the protons ( T p=82 MeV). The flow angle distribution peaks near 0°. It is shown, however, that hydrodynamic effects can explain certain features of the data. The values of some parameters related to the projectile/target asymmetry indicate that a more complex hydrodynamic description of the collisions is needed.
