Centennial history of the American Dermatological Association - 1876 to 1976.

Abstract

Two association historians have published histories of the American Dermatological Association (ADA)—one in 1926 and the other in 1951. Both of these men, George Henry Fox and Paul E. Bechet, have stressed the capabilities and the accomplishments of individuals—the founders, the charter members, and other prominent members. It is my intention to report the events that have led to the lofty position enjoyed by the association. The year was 1876. Ulysses S. Grant was President of the United States. The United States was celebrating its 100th birthday with the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. The American Medical Association and the International Medical Congress were meeting in Philadelphia.
