Abstract

The census of Cinclus pallasii was done at the Asano river from 1972 through 1977. Bird species which were observed in the observation area were also recorded.C. pallasii was detected all the year, and built the nest and laid eggs between January and February every year. The individual number of the species seasonally varied; that is, the mean number was one in the area from early in April through late in October, while the number was above 11 in November through March. In addition to C. pallasii, Ceryle lugubris and Alcedo atthis were also detedted all the year, and their lives were appeared to be completely dependent on the river. As bird species whose lives are mainly dependent on the river, Egretta garzetta and Charadrius dubius were detected.
