Abstract

Objective: The proposals of the National Curricular Guidelines (NCG) for the dentistry course in 2002, aims to train health professionals to be better prepared to work in the Unified Health System (UHS), through the strengthening of linkages between Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and the public service. The main strategy is the inclusion of students in the public service, which was explored in this study, in search of its meaning as a pedagogical strategy and its role in health training process. Method: During the first phase, it was proposed a documental analyzes of the pedagogical project of a private HEI and NCG, in order to contextualize the local reality and understand the main suggestions of NCG. In the second phase, 10 students of dentistry of a private institution that act in the UHS agreed to participate in the virtual environment, in secret discussion groups on Facebook. Questions were used related to dentistry, UHS and graduation. The publications of the students, the pedagogical project of the HEI study and documents from the NCG were analyzed using concept maps, validated, respectively, by the students, the dentistry course coordinator and the representative of the Association of Dental Education (ABENO). To deepen the analysis of the different experiences and opinions of students, it was used the Bardin content analysis. Results: The results showed potentially transformative experiences and perceptions of health training, even with the limited relationship found between teaching and service. Conclusions: In this study, besides being possible to occur pedagogical practices in UHS practice settings, is also likely learning skills and abilities (general and specific), described by NCG. However, there are needs to be sustainable partnerships teaching and service to promote the incorporation of NCG in the curricula of HEI, and induce changes in the production of health care in the UHS units.
