Abstract
The precariousness of professional education of nurses is an issue that follows the history of Psychiatry and Psychiatric Nursing since the inauguration of the first Brazilian psychiatric hospital. Since the sixties, professors were concerned regarding methodology in Psychiatric Nursing. This is a descriptive-exploratory study, carried out with 17 nurses of the Specialization Course in Psychiatric Nursing, in 2006, respecting the ethical standards of research with human being. A questionnaire was applied by the professors using interactionism methods having a good acceptance by the students. The data was analyzed through the interpretation in categories. Nevertheless, the students showed great value on the exchange of content, and the professor-student relationship not as a moment to facilitate the knowledge building process, but to make the information exchange easier. Therefore, it is believed to be fundamental that professors continue using interpersonal teaching methodologies, and the nurses should keep searching not only to be up-to-date, but also being concerned in learning how to live, do and learn, undoing their own asylums with the objective to disassemble those knowledge and asylums practices.
