Abstract
Cellular FLIP (cFLIP) is a newly discovered anti-apoptotic protein that could block death receptor signaling pathways via modulating the activation of caspase-8. Recent studies have shown that cFLIP could activate caspase-8. The high expression of caspase-8 is associated with many tumors. For example, there is a high expression of caspase-8 in melanoma tissue and melanoma cell lines; to block the function of cFLIP by introducing cFLIP-targeting small interfering RNA into melanoma cell lines, chemotherapy, or ultraviolet B plus tumor necrosis factor related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) would accelerate the apoptosis of melanoma cells. Key words: Melanoma; CASP8 and FADD-Iike apoptosis regulating protein; Receptors,TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand
