Abstract

Cellular Automaton (CA) is a non-numerical algorithm space analysis model, which uses simple codes and acts as the way of cells reproduction. The time, space and state of it is all discrete. Simple structure and high computational efficiency is the absolute advantages of CA. With the development of computer science, CA model has been widely applied in a number of fields, such as computability theory, mathematics, physics and traffic modeling. This chapter presents an overview of CA model and its application in traffic field, including: introduction of CA, traffic CA model, pedestrian CA model, and paired pedestrian CA model and simulation.
