Abstract

For the sake of solving calculating problem of unsteady temperature field on the milling insert during milling, the temperature field evolution rule and analytic method based on principle of cellular automation (CA) was put forward. The local rule of cellular automation for temperature field of milling insert was deduced and the model of cellular automation was built according to heat transfer theory and finite difference method. The boundary problem was dealt with availably. The numerical-value result of temperature field was obtained by temperature field analysis based on principle of cellular automation. By comparing with the result of finite element method (FEM) analysis, the effectiveness of this method was testified. The analytic method and thought of temperature field based on principle of cellular automation have provided an analytic way with flexibility for the structural design of milling insert under the coupling action of force field and heat field.
