Abstract

SummaryMetal on metal hip implants can result in unsafe levels of metal ions (cobalt and chromium) both locally and systemically. Intraoperative cell salvage is becoming a standard of care in revisional hip surgery, however in these circumstances where metal on metal hip implants are present, it may not be safe to use.
