Abstract

RC2B, Proco-sol, calcium hydroxide, and zinc oxide-eugenol cements were tested in the hardened, or set, state to determine whether they can induce cell-mediated immune responses in laboratory guinea pigs. In vivo skin tests have shown that the materials are inflammatory, but in vitro assays for migration inhibitory factor were negative. The data suggest that the test materials in the hardened state are nonspecific irritants.
