Abstract
The process of sexual reproduction in higher plants can be subdivided into a number of developmental stages. Most of them include one or more examples of cell separation, recognition and fusion. Therefore, sexual reproduction can be considered a model system for studies of such cell interactions that also provides an opportunity to compare homologous processes in male and female development. In this chapter the main interactions during sexual reproduction which lead to cell separation and fusion are reviewed.
