Abstract

1. Embryonic chick liver and intestine expiants give rise to monolayer epithelial sheets when planted on a water-repellent silicone substratum or on glass in the presence of a serum exsudate. 2. Mitotic activity of fibroblasts from embryonic chick heart is lower on silicone than on glass while the areas of outgrowth differ lesser. 3. The presence of serum is necessary for the attachment and proliferation of cells in primocultures on plane hydrophobic substratum. 4. The possible mechanism of this phenomenon is briefly discussed.
