Abstract
Celiac Disease and Social Capital. A Sociological Gaze on Alimentary Intolecances - In this paper Corposanto describes the problem of chronicity due to gluten intolerance. Celiac disease affects about 1% of the population and the only cure is the total abstinence for any food containing gluten. Therefore one of the most important non medical consequence in the life of celiac people is the potential loss of social and relational capital. Approaching the problem with life and illness stories, Corposanto arrives to a new paradigm of the loss of health that, starting with the well-known tripartition of Twaddle Illness, Sickness and Disease and passing through the idea of Maturo’s Penta Model. Corposanto proposes a new model with 6 dimensions. The new one, called Sonetness, is strictly related with the loss of social and relational capital.
