Abstract

The recognition that splanchnic nerve block may provide relief of pain in a subset of patients who fail to obtain relief from celiac plexus block has led to a renewed interest in this technique. One distinct advantage of splanchnic nerve block over celiac plexus block is since the nerves are contained in a narrow compartment, they are accessible for radiofrequency lesioning. In this report the technique of celiac plexus and splanchnic nerve blocks is described. A new technique of radiofrequency of splanchnic nerves is discussed with its advantages and early data.
