Abstract

Founded in 1807, during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has been a vital source of information and understanding for generations of learners. Over two centuries, Wiley championed early American literature by publishing authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving, Herman Melville, James Fenimore Cooper, and Charles Dickens; opened new frontiers publishing research with Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, and 150 Nobel Laureates; and produced textbooks that have helped define fields of study. A knack for adaptation, prudent management, independent governance, and unbroken involvement of Wiley family, now in its 7th generation, are keys to Wiley’s sustained success.
