Abstract
In Reply.— The issues raised by Madson and Grose do not relate directly to our report, which describes a case of cefuroxime treatment failure in Haemophilus influenzae meningitis and reviews the literature.1 However, since the issues they raised are important we offer this response. The decision to choose which of the newer cephalosporins to use for treatment of bacterial meningitis must be based on available experience which includes efficacy data, safety and toxicity record, and relative coast analysis.
