Abstract
A prototype router has been developed to gather performance data for the Electronic Industry Association's (EIA's) consumer electronic bus (CEBus) home automation standard. Testing evaluated the tradeoffs in throughput and delay as well as the amount of overhead traffic required to maintain the network topology. The goals of testing the prototype router were to set bounds on the router delay during packet forwarding and to optimize the network reconfiguration time of the topology protocol as defined in the draft standard EIA IS-60. The testing took place in three stages: (1) ensuring the correctness of the standardized CEBus router design; (2) determining the operational parameters which most greatly affect router performance; and (3) determining specific values for certain parameters which will optimize the router performance. The correctness of the forwarding and topology functions has been verified.
