Abstract
The newest major construction project planned by the Energy Research Office of the US Department of Energy is CEBAF, the 4 GeV continuous electron beam accelerator facility dedicated to basic nuclear physics research. The status of the project, its physics program, and present plans for the initial complement of experimental equipment are briefly reviewed.
