Abstract

In this work, utilizing 6.0 MeV C-ion irradiated on Ce: LSO crystals, the optical properties induced by electronic and nuclear energy deposition have been studied. The optical waveguide structures were formed and their properties were investigated using prism coupling and end-face coupling methods. The structural properties were also studied by X-ray defraction (XRD) patterns. The absorption spectra show that carbon ion irradiation at fluences of 1 × 1015 and 2 × 1015 ions/cm2 have minimal influence on the visible and near-infrared bands area. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra were examined at room temperature, and experimental results shows that the fluorescence intensity can be enhanced by reasonable control of irradiation fluence.
