Abstract

The chapter reviews developments in the field of alkyne hydrosilylation catalyzed by transition metals. A mechanistic overview is provided. State-of-the-art methods for the hydrosilylation of terminal alkynes are presented, including methods to afford cis- and trans-addition products as well as α-vinylsilanesilane regioisomers. The selective hydrosilylation of internal alkynes through intermolecular and intramolecular methods is presented as well. Recent applications in methodology and synthesis for the subsequent use of vinylsilanes in oxidative and C–C-bond-forming processes are presented, as well as tandem hydrosilylation/carbocyclization processes with tethered unsaturation.
