Abstract

Switched reluctance motor have various converter topologies to control speed, power & its operation, this paper discusses the C-dump converter topology. The choice is based on the ease of control, simple construction, and low cost. The switched reluctance motor is best competitor for induction motor. Due to its low cost, rugged & simple construction, high torque to mass ratio Switched Reluctance Motor is preferred over Induction Motor. C-Dump converter provides the quick magnetization as well as the quick demagnetization of phase winding which prevents operation of motor in generating mode. It avoids formation of negative torque ripples. It also utilizes the energy stored in phase winding & it can be feedback to source. Some new modified converter topologies of C-Dump are capable of utilizing this stored energy for exiting the next phase winding of motor.
