Abstract

In this work, we have tuned the surface chemistry of CdTe quantum dots (QDs), by L-glutathione (L-GSH) capping ligand. CdTe QDs are synthesized by aqueous phase route and characterized by using UV–visible and photo luminescence spectrometry. Optical response of capped CdTe QDs is observed to be time and temperature dependent. A strong “Turn-On” fluorescence enhancement of CdTe fluorescence is observed in presence of Zn metals ion. The output of Stern volmer relation and graphical Job’s plot establishes the existence of strong 1:1 complexation between CdTe and Zn metal ion. The proposed optical techniques represent the applicability of functionalized CdTe QD as a successful optical sensor for metal ions detection.
