Abstract

CdSe nanocrystalline thin films were synthesized with a method containing two stages. In the first stage Cd(O2)0.88(OH)0.24 precursor films with different deposition time were synthesized by Chemical Bath Deposition. In the second stage precursor films were transformed into CdSe films by immersion in a Se ionic solution. CdSe samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction, UV–vis, Raman spectroscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry. CdSe samples crystallized in hexagonal wurtzite phase. Raman spectra showed the LO mode with higher order features. Cd and Se core levels obtained from measurements are in agreement with values for CdSe in bulk. Depth profile analysis confirms the presence of CdSe films on top of thicker Cd(O2)0.88(OH)0.24 precursor films.
