Abstract

While multifunctional photocatalytic activities of CdS QDs sensitized single Bismuth based catalysts have been studied extensively, but there has been no similar report for a comparison study on CdS QDs sensitized various Bi-based catalyst. Herein, we have performed for the first time; an assessment of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) of CdS QDs sensitized BiOI, Bi doped Bi2MoO6, and BiVO4 using apparent conversion efficiency (ACE) calculation. Among these CdS QDs sensitized Bi doped Bi2MoO6 composite is found to be the flagship one for HER in terms of ACE. Highest ACE of 22% is calculated for CdS QDs sensitized Bi doped Bi2MoO6 followed by CdS/BiVO4 (12.5%) and CdS/BiOI (9%). The structural, morphological and optical characterizations are performed by XRD, XPS, HRTEM and UV-DRs and PL. We believe that this comparison study reveals new possibilities for development of QDs sensitized various cost effective, non-toxic Bi based materials for other useful applications.
