Abstract

AbstractThis report discusses the results of a pilot study designed to test the validity of the Certificate in Data Processing (CDP) Examination. The study involved a 100% sample of the forty-one people who wrote all five sections of the 1978 CDP exam in Vancouver.Six components of success in the data processing industry were defined and a composite success index was determined. No strong relationship between this composite index and the CDP exam scores was found, though the exam scores did seem to be positively related to two of the six individual components, namely management ability, as assessed by the candidates' supervisors, and current salary.CDP exam scores were also found to be positively related to amount of experience and university education, and negatively related to amount of technical school education.
