Abstract
HEALTH PROFESSIONALS interested in increasing their knowledge and skills in the public health field can take self-study courses from the CDC's Public Health Practice Program Office. The Self-Study Training Program courses, developed and managed by the office's Division of Media and Training Services, are designed to provide alternative instruction when regular classtoom instruction is either inconvenient or unavailable, says division director Dennis McDowell. Courses are free to employees of agencies, institutions, and universities that are funded by state or local governments, and to CDC employees. Others are charged a nominal $16 fee. The following self-study courses are available: Environmental Health Sciences, Basic Mathematics in Environmental Health, Communicable Disease Control, Vector-Borne Disease Control, Waterborne Disease Control, Foodborne Disease Control, Environmental Protection, Water Fluoridation, Microbial Ecology of Foods, and Principles of Epidemiology.
