Abstract

Introduction: Cancer stem cells are postulated to drive the growth and invasion of cancers. In oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), CD44 is a marker of these cells. This observational study aims to examine the correlation between the size of the fraction of CD44+ cells present in primary OSCC and their histopathological appearance, clinical stage, and behaviour.
