Abstract

In this work, a novel composition of cadmium bismuthates nanostructures, Cd3Bi10O20, was prepared by a sol–gel auto-combustion approach. To prepare the Cd3Bi10O20 nanostructures with controlled morphologies, various gelling agents, fuels and different molar ratios of fuel to total metals have been employed. Formation of as-synthesized Cd3Bi10O20 nanostructures and its elemental composition, morphology, structure and optical characteristics were analyzed utilizing UV–Vis, TEM, FESEM, FT-IR, XRD and EDS. Furthermore, the photocatalytic performance of as-produced Cd3Bi10O20 nanostructures with different morphologies and sizes was studied by photodegradation of acid violet 7 dye as water contaminant under visible light irradiation.
