Abstract

Following the development of the Digital Sun Sensor (SSD for SPOT program) using linear CCD detector, it has been studied the possible concept of optical sensor using CCD-matrix detector, allowing to detect targets of faint luminosity. In this paper, a review of the different uses is performed: star sensor (tracker, mapper, refraction), attitude and distance measurement sensor between two spacecrafts in the frame of Rendez-vous and Docking operations. The different technical choices for the main components of such a sensor are analysed (optical system, detector, focal plane, cooling technics, signal processing…) and a multimission attractive concept is shown. A modular conception of this kind of sensor is appropriate to cover the full range of needs. Modularity is studied for the technical configuration, the information data handling, the updating rate, the exposure time and detector temperature range with respect to the mission (stellar or RVD, relative motion rate ….). In a last step, results of performances evaluation carried out in laboratory are presented and discussed.
