Abstract

Purpose: Myocardial adaptation after ischemic injury is associated with activation of endocannabinoid system and cannabinoid receptor CB2. We recently demonstrated cardioprotective effects of CB2 receptor in a murine model of ischemic cardiomyopathy: induction of antioxidative enzymes, adaptation of contractile elements in cardiomyocytes and regulation of proinflammatory macrophage subtype M1. Here we further elucidated the role of CB2 receptor in interaction of cardiomyocytes and macrophages in cell co-culture under stress conditions in vitro.
