Abstract

Abstract Open rain screen walls were developed to prevent rain penetration by developing a cavity pressure equal to the wind pressure. The size and the distribution of openings in the inner and outer wythes will determine the magnitude of the cavity pressure in relation to the wind pressures. The impact of cracks in outer wythe on the cavity pressure is considered in this paper. Experimental work on a field model showed the cavity pressure to vary significantly according to the size of cracks and vent holes.
