Abstract

The use of coating materials to reduce cavitation damage in concrete hydraulic structures has achieved only limited success in previous applications. The coating's adhesion to the substrate is one of the most important factors that affect the overall performance of a coating system in a cavitating environment. Utilizing accelerated laboratory and full-scale field cavitation tests, cavitation-resistant coating systems with superior bond strengths were identified. Efforts were made to further improve the adhesion between the coating and concrete substrates through the use of ionizing irradiation.
