Abstract

AbstractThe cavitation effect occurred during the operation of hydraulic machinery is a widely known and thoroughly studied phenomenon. This research work presents a case study of cavitation analysis that was conducted on the Kaplan turbines at the Yacyretá hydropower plant. This effect was observed during scheduled maintenance routines of the power generating units. These turbines belonged to the Entidad Nacional Yacyretá (EBY) [1]. The cavitation phenomenon could cause significant damage to blades and other turbine components under certain operating conditions [2].
