Abstract

Anyone who has read the UK newspapers during the past few years will know that our universities are strapped for cash, so much so that they are now going to charge many students tuition fees. This has been a topic for much discussion, but there has been little debate on one very likely consequence of this move. If students are to pay tuition fees, they will want value for money and will stop putting up with boring, ill-prepared, second-rate lectures. In future lecturers will have to polish their material, keep it up to date, and deliver it in clear ringing tones.
