Abstract

Weak-intensity neuromodulation involves the use of targeted transcranial stimulation to treat neuropsychiatric disorders, including depression. This type of neuromodulation has more favourable tolerability profiles1,2 than higher intensity neuromodulation techniques, such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and electroconvulsive therapy. As weak-intensity neuromodulation is delivered by portable, battery-driven devices, it can potentially be administered to patients at home. Such home-based neuromodulation is likely to play an increasing role in the treatment of psychiatric disorders in the near future,3 and neuromodulation is gaining rapid traction as an effective tool in interventional psychiatry.
