Abstract

We present a numerical method for the determination of caustics of Hamiltonian systems. Given a Hamiltonian system, we are able to find evidence of integrability or chaos. We apply the method to the well-known Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian, and we compare the results with the traditional surface of the section method, implemented for the first time in their-seminal paper. This method can also show how far from separability the system is in a given set of variables.
