THE communication from E. Reyer in NATURE of July 7 (p. 224) βOn the Causes of the Deformation of the Earth's Crustβ is interesting from several points of view. It is an indication that the theory which looks upon mountain ranges as the effects of the earth's contraction does not satisfy the conditions of the geologist.
